Web/Mobile App Critique (POST 2)

 

Today I will be discussing one of the most popular music streaming services out today, known as Spotify. Spotify is a digital music, podcast, and video service that gives you access to millions of songs and other content from creators all over the world. Spotify is the world's most popular audio streaming subscription service with over 615 million listeners around the world. The platform is housed with over 100 million songs, including 6 million podcast titles. Since its inception back in 2008, Spotify continues to grow more with its database each day providing users with easy access to their personal playlist, radio, and even audiobooks.

For me, Spotify is my number one go to when it comes to enjoying music in general. When it comes to usability, the app allows me to curate different playlists depending on the genre of music I like listening to. The app also allows me to choose which ever artist, song, or album I can like which allows me to save whatever I want to my personal library. One cool feature that Spotify also provides is, whatever genre of music you listen to the app will automatically curate a radio playlist (or mix) so that whenever you go on you can listen to many of your favorite songs.

As far as the apps design, I feel that it is very user friendly especially when it comes down to creating your very own playlists or radio mixes. For each Spotify user, you basically have your own background whenever you enter the app on any mobile device. The interface is basically suited to whatever you are listening to. It even adjusts to the time change to whenever you are going to sleep or when you wake up right in the morning and getting your day started.

When functionality comes into play, the app is always continuing to grow each and every day. New music and podcasts come nearly every day. With its library continuing to grow, you can also have your music whether your music on the go and even when you may not receive service everywhere. The app allows you to download and have your music saved so you can play it offline if you experience service issues on any of your mobile devices. 

As far as improvements, I think Spotify could work on a few adjustments that would make the app even more spectacular. First, we all know that some users love reciting the lyrics to their favorite songs (myself included). As far as most of the songs on the app lyrics are provided for most songs but not all of them. I feel Spotify should have song lyrics for each and every song including podcasts so everyone can have the intended listening experience they desire. Another improvement I feel Spotify could have, would be having a spotlight for the upcoming local musical artists that are unknown or underrated. Every time we go on to Spotify most of the popular artists that have over millions of active listeners are always at the top. I feel that Spotify should also highlight the new up and coming artists as well that put their heart and souls into their creative music. One final improvement that I feel may come on board to Spotify soon is having music videos being able to be played on the app as well. If this were to happen in the near future, I believe Spotify would be amongst the only competitor in the music streaming service era.
