Tech Topic Connection (POST 7)

For my tech topic, I chose to write about “Network Security”. Network Security can be defined as the field of cybersecurity focused on protecting computer networks and systems from internal and external cyberthreats and cyberattacks. The reason I chose to pick the topic on Network Security is because I want to pursue a career in cybersecurity once I finish my bachelor's degree at UAGC. In my research of this topic, I want to learn the different aspects of network security and how certain threats are handled. I also want to know what the different ways are a major cyber issue can be dealt with in a serious situation. This would be leeway to a better understanding of why we need network security. I will use this blog I’m creating to further explain the advantages of network security.

As far as how Network Security relates to the concepts of information technology and computer science and how computers operate one must look at the similarities between the topics. Network Security keeps sensitive information from cyber-attacks and ensures the network is usable and trustworthy. While this happens with network security, IT security can cover the aspects beyond networks, such as providing physical security with access controls, data encryption, and classification. In regard to computer science, both network security and computer science can solve problems through the use of computers dealing with things like cyber threats or attacks that could compromise certain networks, software, and other devices.

Network Security relies heavily on today's hardware components and modern computer systems. There are actually three ways this happens. The first being physical devices that monitor and protect our computer networks that include firewalls, routers, and network security appliances. Another is software network security with applications such antivirus software or encryption software. Finally, another component that has been very recent is cloud network security. Having these three components on a modern computer system has a better chance of protection rather than a system that wouldn't have the necessary computer functions.

When it comes to Network Security and programming languages, there are many different ways you can use the languages to protect your computer systems by using certain encryptions. Some of the different programming languages include JavaScript, Python, and C++. JavaScript is basically a scripting language that is used to power most web pages. Python is a very popular programming language that can be used to create web applications and other software. C++ is another programming language that uses objects instead of numbers and texts so that information is more secure.

As far as application software goes, network security can play a huge part in this role when it comes to having certain protection for all your computer devices. There are many different types of application software, as discussed in the previous paragraph, antivirus programs can be used to help protect your computer devices as well as cloud computing.

Network Security can also go hand in hand with the basic concepts of database and database management. Databases focus primarily on maintenance, functionality, and security of systems while network security focuses on the maintenance, functionality, and security of computer networks. There are four main types of network database systems that include: Integrated Data Store (IDS) which organizes the information on a computer. The next is the Integrated Database Management System (IDMS) which is a computer system that arranges information like a building block. TurboIMAGE is a special type of computer system for HP 3000 minicomputers. Lastly, is the Univac DMS-1100 which is a special computer system for Univac's big mainframe computers.

Network Security has become a huge staple in our society. Nowadays, it is all about protection against cyber threats which most of the nation is faced with each day from different entities. If certain precautions are taken, we can definitely protect our computer systems.
