Computers in the Workplace (POST 5)
For this discussion I chose to talk about the healthcare industry which I work in currently. I have been working in the healthcare industry for some time now and I work as a Security Officer for my profession. In the healthcare industry, computers and IT are prevalent not only to my profession, but other areas in the hospital as well. Computers are widely used for patient care in the healthcare industry in fact, there is something known as Health Information Technology (HIT) which is a key segment of healthcare as well as IT that involves the design, development, implementation, usage, and maintenance of information systems and software solutions for the healthcare industry. As far as the healthcare facility I work at, there is a software system called EPIC which is used as a hub for vital healthcare information for past, current, and even future patients of the hospital. The information on EPIC is provided for specific employees of the hospital that may require certain information that they need to know in regard to the patient's wellbeing so they can provide the necessary care to the patient and also provide the best privacy for them. The best thing about EPIC and Healthcare Information Technology is you can use it across multiple computing devices and platforms for hospitals, clinics, healthcare providers, and other medical centers. The current state of Global HIT is currently on track to have a value close to $1 trillion by 2027. With more remote healthcare solutions it continues to be ever growing.
